In 1996 a body was pulled from the sea by a fishing boat off the coast of Devon, south-west England. Police traced the serial number on the man’s watch to identify him as a Mr Ronald Platt. But then they discovered the man they believed was his friend, David Davis, appeared to have stolen the dead man’s identity. ibid.
