Michael Roberts was suspected of five terrifying attacks on elderly women dating back to the late 1980s. Four of the women had been raped, all of them viciously beaten and one stabbed to death. ibid.

Following a trial at Southwark Crown Court, the 45-year-old, of no fixed address, was given four life sentences by Judge Stephen Robbins.
Judge Robbins said: ‘I do sentence you to imprisonment for the rest of your natural life ... your utter depravity knows no bounds; these are very grave offences.’
After the sentence was read out Roberts said: ‘I will only say this, my lord, I am absolutely not guilty and I will ...’ before he was dragged from the dock by prison guards.

A man has been jailed for at least 32 years for the ‘savage, pre-planned’ murder of a woman found dead in a horse paddock.
Justin Robertson, 36, was paid £1,500 by Benjamin Carr, 22, to ‘silence’ his former stepmother Pennie Davis after a long-running feud between the pair.
Robertson had denied murder but was convicted after a six-week trial.
