The United States does not start fights. Ronald Reagan
Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective – a new world order – can emerge: a new era – freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace. An era in which the nations of the world, East and West, North and South, can prosper and live in harmony. A hundred generations have searched for this elusive path to peace, while a thousand wars raged across the span of human endeavor. Today that new world is struggling to be born, a world quite different from the one we’ve known. A world where the rule of law supplants the rule of the jungle. A world in which nations recognize the shared responsibility for freedom and justice. A world where the strong respect the rights of the weak. George H W Bush, address before joint session of Congress 11th September 1990
We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a New World Order. A world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this New World Order – an Order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfil the promise and vision of the UN’s founders. George H W Bush, address to nation on invasion of Iraq 16 January 1991
We have no argument with the people of Iraq. Indeed, for the innocents caught in this conflict, I pray for their safety. Our goal is not the conquest of Iraq. It is the liberation of Kuwait. It is my hope that somehow the Iraqi people can, even now, convince their dictator that he must lay down his arms, leave Kuwait, and let Iraq itself rejoin the family of peace-loving nations. ibid.
What is at stake is more than one small country. It is a big idea. A New World Order. Where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind. George H W Bush, address before Joint Session of Congress on State of the Union January 1991
We have within our reach the promise of a renewed America. We can find meaning and reward by serving some higher purpose than ourselves, a shining purpose, the illumination of a Thousand Points of Light. ibid.
And that’s why I wanted to speak to you today about the new world taking shape around us. About the prospects for a New World Order now within our reach. George H W Bush, address Maxwell Air Force Base April 1991
In the coming weeks I’ll be talking in some detail about the possibility of a new world order emerging after the cold war. ibid.
The new world order really is a tool for addressing a new world of possibilities. This order gains its mission and shape not just from shared interests but from shared ideals. ibid.
Read my lips – no new taxes. George H W Bush
I was aware of our Iran initiative and I support the president’s decision. George H W Bush
I want a kinder and gentler nation. George H W Bush
One of the good things about the way the Gulf War ended in 1991 is, you’d see the Vietnam veterans marching with the Gulf War veterans. George H W Bush
I will never apologize for the United States of America. Ever. I don’t care what the facts are. George H W Bush
Reagan ... was most definitely a global empire builder, a servant of the corporatocracy... He would cater to the men who shuttled back and forth from corporate CEO offices to bank boards and into the halls of government. He would serve the men who appeared to serve him but who in fact ran the government – men like Vice President George H W Bush, Secretary of State George Shultz, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, Richard Cheney, Richard Helms, and Robert McNamara. He would advocate what those men wanted: an America that controlled the world and all its resources, a world that answered to the commands of that America, a US military that would enforce the rules as they were written by America, and an international trade and banking system that supported America as CEO of the global empire. John Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
Moreover as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstance of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat. Zbigniew Brzezinski, The Grand Chessboard 1997 p211
The last decade of the twentieth century has witnessed a tectonic shift in world affairs. For the first time ever a non-Eurasian power has emerged not only as a key arbiter of Eurasian power relations but also as the world’s paramount power. The defeat and collapse of the Soviet Union was the final step in the rapid ascendance of a Western Hemisphere power, the United States, as the sole and indeed the first truly global power. ibid.
For America the chief geopolitical prize is Eurasia. ibid.
The three grand imperatives of imperial geo-strategy are to prevent collusion and maintain security dependence among the vassals, to keep tributaries pliant and protected, and to keep the barbarians from coming together. ibid.
But the Eurasian Balkans are infinitely most important as a potential economic prize: an enormous concentration of natural gas and oil reserves is located in the region, in addition to important minerals including gold. ibid.
Without sustained and directed American involvement, before long the forces of global disorder could come to dominate the world scene. And the possibility of such a fragmentation is inherent in the geopolitical tensions not only of today’s Eurasia but of the world more generally. ibid.
America is not only the first, as well as the only, truly global superpower, but it is also likely to be the very last. ibid.
The mistakes of the Iraq war are not only tactical and strategic, but historical. It is essentially a war of colonialism, attempted in the post-colonial age. Zbigniew Brzezinski, interview The NewsHour 11th January 2007
This is Zbigniew Brzezinski ... He was of the same stock as the people that always seem to be pulling the strings behind American politics, and therefore global politics. And he was key in elevating Barack Obama to a position of power, and giving his support. And there are other people in the background that seem to be the same old faces. And this is the issue for some is that Barack Obama may be something very new, but the people that put him there seem to be very old. And of the old usual way of thinking so that the fear that the old strings are still being pulled by the New World Order – the Illuminati whatever you want to call it – are obviously very strong. Andy Thomas, lecture Alternative View II conference 2009, ‘The Era of Turmoil and the Energy of Hope’
Creative destruction is our middle name, both within our own society and abroad.
We tear down the old order every day, from business to science, literature, art, architecture and cinema to politics and the law.
Our enemies have hated this whirlwind of energy and creativity, which menaces their traditions (whatever they may be) and shames them for their inability to keep peace.
Seeing America undo traditional societies, they fear us, for they do not wish to be undone.
They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission. Michael Ledeen, The War Against the Terror Masters

This external threat may have to be created. ibid.
Well like everyone else of my generation I can remember exactly where I was standing on the fateful day when John Fitzgerald Kennedy nearly killed me. Because I can remember the Cuba crisis. Christopher Hitchens, interview The Late Show
In my lifetime in Washington, which is now a quarter of a century, the most amazing thing I have ever seen is to see the oil-bearing wing of the Republican party – particularly identified with Mr Bush and Mr Cheney – change its mind completely, having run against Al Gore, against nation-building, against humanitarian intervention, against this kind of co-operation, change its mind completely and go to war with the status quo. Christopher Hitchens, lecture Islam and the West
Under President Reagan illegal money was raised from drugs and from the sale of illegal weapons and the trading in human lives ... And Reagan was president of that secret government ... He was a regular habitual liar. And as for the economy, we are still living with his deficit. Christopher Hitchens, interview The Nation
