In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it. Michelangelo

The burnt remains of an estimated 200 people uncovered at the site in 2008 suggests a darker past. ibid.

What’s most remarkable about Stonehenge is the stones themselves – on one side they’re quite rough, the other side is curved. And they’re curved in a way that seems only to have acoustic properties. Rupert Till, University of Huddersfield
Why and how could ancient people have dragged these railway-car size of stone, stacked them up together into these giant buildings? Ancient Aliens pilot episode Chariots, Gods & Beyond with Erich von Daniken, Childress
Death Valley: Yet here strange tracks keep appearing on the baked surface left by huge boulders. Stones would seem to move under their own power, curving and looping for hundreds of yards and even miles. Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious World, ITV 1980
The giant stone balls of Costa Rica: huge and uncannily perfect spheres, hand-made and of unknown origin. They are even beside the airport runway ... There’s absolutely nothing to tell who made the spheres, or when or why. Bewildered archaeologists can merely clutch at straws ... More than fifteen hundred giant stone balls have so far been found. The biggest eight-feet across and weighing sixteen tons. The granite they are made from has been brought from mountains many miles away. They are mathematically precise and must have taken years to grind down with nothing more that stone tools and braces. Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious World
Off the coast of California these divers know that beneath the waters of the Pacific they will find puzzling archaeological treasures. In 1975 skipper Bob Meistrell retrieved a strange stone from the ocean floor: a hole had been drilled clean through it. The divers are looking for some more. The stones had obviously been carved deliberately. Experts recognised an uncanny resemblance to anchors used by fishermen in Old China. Meistrell thinks American history should be re-written.
