He died from a drink-related illness in 1963. In the same year Kim Philby admitted his treachery and defected to the Soviet Union. Soon after, Melinda Maclean left her husband and moved in with Philby. When he died in 1988, Philby was buried in Moscow with full military honours. After the defection of Philby, Anthony Blunt confessed in return for immunity from prosecution. In 1979 he was publicly unmasked in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and stripped of his knighthood. He died in 1983. ibid.
