Uncertainty Principle: We simply cannot know anything with absolute certainty.  ibid.

The heart of these comic icebergs is the nucleus or central core ... as big as a modern city.  The Universe s7e6: Ride the Comet

Some tails can stretch for a hundred million miles.  ibid.

Did a comet slam into the ocean and cause the Biblical flood?  Did a fiery messenger from space reverse the fate of Christianity?  Did a fireball in the sky wipe out the first North Americans? ... Human history was rocked with catastrophic moments when space changed history.  The Universe s7e7: When Space Changed History

Stonehenge: One of the world’s oldest structures.  Its foundations predate the Great Pyramids … Could the mystery of Stonehenge be revealed in its builder’s desire to explore the unknown heavens and explore the universe? … Was this the Hubble telescope of its time?  The Universe s8e1: Ancient Mysteries Solved: Stonehenge, History 2014

All we know for certain is that these elusive monuments once entombed the great pharaohs ... or were they burial tombs?  The Universe s8e2: Ancient Mysteries Solved: Pyramids

It doesn’t line up with the north star at all ... Stars move about through time.  ibid.

The less than perfect diagonal line-up of the pyramids may have more to do with geography and geology than cosmic inspiration.  ibid.

They might be part of a mysterious solar cult.  ibid.

A chilling saga of the sin cities in the ancient world ... Might the story be based on a real-life disaster?  The Universe s8e3: Ancient Mysteries Solved: Heavenly Destruction

A large iron asteroid could have flattened Sodom & Gomorrah and left a crater.  ibid.

A strange light in the heavens ... Is it faith, fable or fact?  The Universe s8e4: Ancient Mysteries Solved: Star of Bethlehem

When the particles collide they break open and throw out a shower of even smaller particles .... Within these super-heated collisions a completely new form of matter appears: and this matter contradicts the earlier theories about the nature of the universe: because it’s not a gas but a liquid.  Birth of the Universe, 2006

Finally the universe will die, and all that will be left is cold, dark and lifeless space.  ibid.

In one scenario Gravity pulls the universe back into itself ... This is the Big Crunch ... Then there’s the Big Chill.  The universe expands until the nuclear furnaces that power all the stars burn out.  The universe grows cold and dies.  Then again there could be a much more spectacular end in which everything is ripped to shreds down to the last atom.  Death of the Universe, 2008

Not only is the universe expanding, it’s speeding up.  ibid.

If dark matter is the victor, the universe might collapse.  If dark energy rules the cosmos, it could rip to shreds.  ibid.

This is the Hooker Telescope on Mount Wilson, just a couple of hours from Los Angeles.  In the 1920s this was the best telescope in the world.  And it’s the instrument that Edwin Hubble chose for his survey of galaxies.  Hubble’s twin weapons were the sheer volume of data he collected and an ability to cut through it to see what it meant.  In the 1920s Hubble helped solve a huge debate about the size of the universe.  Using this telescope Hubble proved that the universe was much bigger than anyone had thought, filled with galaxies some of them unimaginable distances from the Earth.  Janet Sumner, interview The Cosmos: A Beginner’s Guide

They were discovered accidentally by spy satellites, and are so big, at first they were suspected of breaking the laws of physics.  They’re called Gamma Ray Bursts or GRBs.  These powerful bangs can be detected only from space as gamma rays don’t reach the ground.  Adam Hart-Davis, The Cosmos: A Beginner’s Guide, 2007

So there was a camera attached to the telescope.  And with it Hubble photographs stars at the far reaches of the Milky Way.  At that time the only known galaxy in the universe.  On 6th October 1923 Hubble took a photograph that must rank as one of the most significant photographs ever taken.  This photograph demonstrated for the first time just how vast the universe truly is.  Michael Mosley, The Story of Science, BBC 2010

At last he [Keppler] had created a model of the universe that matched the evidence.  Keppler had demolished an edifice that had stood for more than 2,000 years.  And replaced it with his first law of planetary motion: all planets travel in ellipses around the Sun.  ibid.

The Edge of the Universe: 130 billion trillion kilometres.  Journey to the Edge of the Universe, National Geographic 2008

In this series I want to tell that story, because ultimately we are part of the universe so its story is our story.  Professor Brian Cox, Wonders of the Universe 1/4: Destiny, BBC 2011

The life of the universe plays out on a much larger scale.  ibid.

It takes two hundred and fifty million years to make just one circuit of the Milky Way.  In the entire history of the human race we’ve travelled less than a tenth of one percent of that orbit.  ibid.

The entire cosmos will die.  ibid.

My creation story is the story of how we were made by the universe.  It explains how every atom in our bodies was formed not on earth but was formed in the depths of space.  Brian Cox, Wonders of the Universe 2/4: Stardust

We have even found fossils at the top of Mount Everest.  ibid.

So the first amino acids on Earth – the fundamental building blocks of life – may have formed in the depths of space and delivered to the Earth on meteorites.  ibid.

Beyond Earths atmosphere life is impossible.  Exposed to the vacuum of space youd be unconscious within twelve seconds.  Brian Cox, Human Universe BBC 2014

The International Space Station has been permanently occupied.  ibid.

As far as we know we humans are unique in the universe.  ibid.

At its peak Petra had a population of 30,000.  ibid.

Each one of us is made from mere matter.  Yet we are matter with curiosity ... Why are we here?  Brian Cox, Human Universe II: Why Are We Here?

We appear to live on a perfect planet in a perfect universe.  It feels as if it's made for us.  The Earth orbits at just the right distance around just the right star with the temperatures on its surface to be just right for liquid water to exist.  ibid.

We live in a universe that’s expanding at just the right rate.  ibid.

‘The gods are later than creation.’  ibid.  Vadic verse

Are we a lone island of life lost in a vast galaxy?  Brian Cox, Human Universe III: Are We Alone?

Red Dwarfs are by far the most numerous stars in our galaxy.  ibid.

There are ten billion inhabitable worlds out there in the Milky Way Galaxy.  ibid.

The question of how often Life spontaneously arises on a planet.  ibid.

The silence persists; we remain alone ... We are unique.  ibid.

Every human life has to start somewhere, a place in Space and Time.  Brian Cox, Human Universe IV: A Place in Space and Time

The Milky Way is a disc of between two and four hundred billion stars reaching out in giant spiral arms.  ibid.

Our inquisitive minds began to develop models of the universe.  Brian Cox, Human Universe V: What is Our Future?
