I got a picture of almost unanimous agreement that strange wild people were living in the high mountain areas. The Mongols say they’re human in appearance but that their speech isn’t the same as the Mongols’ speech. There has been no attempt at direct communication, although they trade by putting parcels of skins on the ground, retreating and coming back later to collect what has been left in exchange. Dr Myra Shackley, Altai Range, Mongolia
The mountains of Western Mongolia and Russia’s Caucasus may be home to a relic unlike any other. A living creature that’s weathered the test of time ... But if he’s related to Bigfoot, they’re distant cousins. The Russian Bigfoot, National Geographic 2006
Perhaps the best documented (and most intriguing) case of a hominid with both human and ape-like characteristics that was captured in the wild and lived for many years amongst humans is that of Zana. And the most astonishing and significant aspect of her life was that she inter-bred with humans! ...
After her capture (in the mid-1800s) Zana was presented to the prince of the region D M Achba, who later gave charge of her to one of his vassals, named Chelokua. Ultimately she was passed on to a nobleman named Edgi Genaba, when he visited the area. Genaba brought her back to his home in the village of T’khina.
Zana’s story was confirmed by interviews of over 100 villagers and residents of her homeland. They described her as having dark, greyish-black skin, bare on the face, but elsewhere she was covered in reddish-black hair. The hair on her head was a bit darker and formed a thick, tousled mane that hung down her back. Her face had a sloping forehead, prominent brows and cheekbones and massive jaws. Her nose was broad and flat, her eyes were reddish and she had large, strong white teeth. Her body was robust and muscular with well-developed breasts. She was tremendously strong, and also swift, able to even outrun a horse! Associated Content.com, The Zara Chronicles, article David Claerr 10th February 2008: Captured Bigfoot Researched By Russian Scientists
They hunt and do all their work at night ... They frequently come in the night and steal their salmon from their nets and eat them raw. If the people are awake they always know when they are coming very near, which is most intolerable. Elkanah Walker, The Diary of Elkahah Walker 1838-1848
Cryptozoologists want you to believe that there are monsters running about in the world. And that we could find these amazing creatures if only we spent more time and money ... Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster are complete bullshit. Penn & Teller, Bullshit! s4e4: Cryptozoology, Showtime 2006
According to legend Bigfoot is a seven to nine feet tall hairy ape-like creature that walks on two feet. ibid.
The market for Bigfoot images is huge. ibid.
1) If there was only one monster it would have to be thousands of years old; 2) So there’d have to be two monsters. But there isn’t enough food for both of them to eat; 3) No monster remains have ever washed ashore; 4) Sonar arrays have been towed through the entire lake, and they showed no monster; 5) ... All of which could easily be mistaken for a monster; 6) No monster has ever been found in similar lakes around the world; 7) There’s no fucking thing as a fucking monster, you fucking asshole! ibid.
At Loch Ness there are bus tours and boat tours. There’s also the Loch Ness 2000 Official Exhibition Centre which features a hotel and a shop. ibid.
In order for science to accept the existence of Bigfoot or Sasquatch we need real evidence. We don’t need fuzzy photographs and we don’t need plastic footprints. Richard Ellis, American Museum of Natural History
Mormons seems to have a peculiar – and prejudiced – fascination with tales of a large, ominous, ape-like, black-skinned Bigfoot (who, they swear, is actually Cain), condemned by the Mormon God to wander the Earth where he ends up scaring the faithful into invoking the Mormon priesthood in order to drive the big, bad, black Bigfoot away. Steve Benson, board post 17th August 2011, ‘Bigoted on Bigfoot: Why Mormons Believe in a Big, Black, Hairy, Degenerate, Sinful and Miserable Bigfoot Creature Named Cain’
Sightings of Bigfoot date back a thousand years. Natives of North America’s Pacific north-west long ago gave it a name: Sasquatch. Two-and-a-half meters tall and weighing over three hundred and fifty kilos, it’s been described as a massive primate. Unlike a gorilla, this animal walks on two legs. Best Evidence: Bigfoot, 2007
Of the thousands of people who have claimed over the years to have seen the creature, the best known are Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. Their fifty-nine seconds of film [1967] is either a key piece of evidence or an elaborate hoax. ibid.
The footprints from the site of the 1967 film were compared with over two hundred samples of mysterious big feet. Dr Meldrum has the largest collection of alleged Sasquatch tracks in the world. Because of the precise and consistent anatomy of the prints, widespread geographical locations, and corroboration by what are said to be credible sightings, he’s convinced that an undeniable pattern is emerging. ibid.
In the last fifty years over 3,700 Bigfoot sightings have been reported in the US and Canada. More commonly in the Pacific north-west than in any other region. Mystery 360: Bigfoot Revealed, National Geographic 2010
With coaching, an actor can imitate the walk of the Patterson Bigfoot. It’s an important piece of supporting evidence for the hoax theory. But this fact alone does not disprove it was a man in a fur costume. ibid.
If such a suit was virtually unavailable at the time, does that lead us to the conclusion that the Bigfoot was real? The creature in the film seems to have more anatomical detail than the technology of the 1960s allowed. In the film several muscle groups are visible in the lower limbs ... All the factors help the case that this is a living creature, not a vintage Hollywood costume. ibid.
The creature is known to native Americans as Sasquatch. Wild man. Known as Yeti. Or Bigfoot. With over four hundred sightings each year and hundreds of footprint files this mystery continues to provide us with clues about a possible un-catalogued animal. Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, Discovery 2003
In 1994 another video camera briefly captured a similar figure in the Blue Mountains of Eastern Washington State. Paul Freeman, a forest service employee at the time, had been noticing tell-tale footprints of a Sasquatch in the area. This time he had his camera ready, and captured something extraordinary. ibid.
Height, stride, bulk and speed can all be measured by comparing the moving animal to fixed objects seen in the backgrounds. The back- grounds of the Patterson and Freedman footage have changed dramatically over the years due to encroaching forest growth or human activity. However, the sight of the Memorial Day footage remains much as it did when the footage was recorded in 1996. ibid.
Now these casts were cast twenty years apart, hundreds of miles apart, yet they have the same ridge texture and rich flow pattern. Jimmy Chilcutt, primate fingerprint specialist
‘Either the most complex and sophisticated hoax in the history of anthropology had continued for centuries without being exposed, or the most manlike and largest non-human primate on earth has managed to survive in parts of North America and remains undiscovered by modern science.’ Ancient Mysteries s1e1: Bigfoot, G W Gill, A&E 1994
It is said to move silent and swift through the undergrowth towering over everything it passes. It strives through the woods as little more than a shadow. ibid.
Over the last two centuries there have been thousands of people that have claimed to see a giant hairy beast lurking in the forests of North America. All fifty US states and all ten Canadian provinces have reported sightings or found tracks of this mysterious animal. ibid.
In 1884 near the town of Yale, British Columbia, a creature was captured that some called a young bigfoot. ibid.
However, it wasn’t until 1958 that Bigfoot gained world-wide recognition. That summer a road-crew working in north-western California reportedly found very large human-like footprints. The creature that made the tracks reportedly tossed around three-hundred pound fuel-drums. The work-crew nicknamed the night-crawler Bigfoot. ibid.
