★ Lies & Liar (II)

December 2020 and two young boys dance happily for the camera.  An apparent scene of domestic bliss.  But one that masked a terrible secret.  Seven months on, one child would be facing a life behind bars, and the other would be dead, the victim of a crime that shamed the nation.  His name: Logan Mwangi.  Faking It s7e2: Behind Closed Doors

July 21st 2021: 999 call … She’s the one who made the phone call … It feels as though she’s performing.’  ibid.  Dawn

‘I admit it all … I should have stabbed him a bit more.’  ibid.  Penny

This smile of pleasure is all over her face.  Mission accomplished.  ibid.  Cliff

And she took her case to the Court of Appeal.  ibid.

While Keele was at the concert, CCTV recorded a young man boarding a train heading to Birmingham.  ibid.

With evidence stacking up against his story, Wesley Streete was questioned in the back of a police car.  ibid.

Calgary, western Canada: A city surrounded by wilderness.  And in 2019 one gripped by an unfolding real-life mystery.  Faking It: Tears of a Crime s7e4: Robert Leeming

‘Jasmine Lovett was 25 year old and her daughter, Aliyah, was just 22 months old.’  ibid.  author Lee Mellor

9 days after that last sighting and with fears for their safety growing, police began searching a remote wooded area 30 miles west of their home.  And they made an Englishman, Robert Leeming, their prime suspect.  ibid.

He started collecting knives at the age of seven.  ibid.  Kerry

‘He subjected her to years and years of abuse.  These are her words.’  ibid.  journalist

They began delving into his background further.  What officers found out over the next few hours caused them even more worry.  ibid.

* Cliff: on meeting journalist surprise, snarl & single-sided shrug, eye blocking & headshake no & increased pitch & duping delight

* C: (with rozzers) single-handed shrug (multiple), headshake no

* Dawn: minimising & doesn’t disagree they were fighting & deflection & pronoun omission & inappropriate laughter & past tense

[Colonel] Russell Williams, British-born commander of the Canadian Air Force VIP Transport Squadron, but unknown to all, Williams led a double life.  Five years on he would be unmasked as the man behind a wave of sexual terror.  Faking It: Tears of a Crime s7e5: Russell Williams

One of their colleagues, Corporal Marie France Comeau, had just been brutally murdered.  ibid.

Two months later another woman, 27-year-old Jessica Lloyd, who also lived within a half hour’s drive of the base, disappeared from her home.  ibid.

Officers had also matched them [boots] to a set of footprints found next to the tyre tracks.  ibid.

He’s anxious.  He knows he’s doomed.  He’s about to confess.  ibid.  Cliff

In October 2010 Williams pleaded guilty to more than 80 charges including murder, rape, kidnap, sexual assault, forcible confinement and burglary.  ibid.

* Dawn: Trying to show off, then low volume, head nods continue after response, lip press, rising pitch at tyre evidence

* Cliff: Single-sided shoulder shrug, clamping arms, eye closure, body tension, lips moisten, leg wrap (release tension)

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, August 2020: Laura Castle was incredibly deceptive, and incredibly deceitful, and lied by omission time and time again.’  ibid. Faking It: Tears of a Crime s7e5: Laura Castle

The Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty straddling the Lancashire, Yorkshire border.  At its eastern edge, Gisburn Forest, a haven for sightseers and walkers.  In April 2022 police teams from 4 forces also headed there, all in search of a mum of 2 named Katie Kenyon.  Faking It: Tears of a Crime s7e6: Andrew Burfield

‘Andrew Burfield was a builder, an odd-job man.  He didn’t have any regular or full time employment.  He was 17 years older than Katie when they first met.  Now Katie was vulnerable, she suffered from anxiety, she was struggling to bring up 2 children by herself.’  ibid.  reporter

What she needs is to get rid of this bully who is trying to make her question her own sanity.  ibid.  Kerry

The northern beaches, Australia: Among these 18 miles of stunning Pacific coastline stands Bayview, home in the early 1980s to Chris and Lyn Dawson.  Key to that success was his sporting ability and looks.  Faking It: Tears of a Crime s7e6: Chris Dawson

By the start of 1982 Lyn Dawson had begun to suspect her husband was having an affair.  On January 8th, they both attended a marriage guidance session.  The next day she went missing leaving her clothes, money, bank cards, passport, and even contact lenses behind.  ibid.

1991 and officers began a fresh search of the couple’s former property; they also brought in Chris Dawson for renewed questioning.  ibid.

Lyn Dawson went missing in 1982.  There were two reasons why police regarded her husband as the prime suspect: his implausible explanation at the time and his behaviour immediately afterwards.  ibid.

The podcast sparked a wider media frenzy with Dawson at the centre.  More seriously for Dawson, the police were responding to renewed public interest in the case.  ibid.
