Jehovah’s Witnesses are currently banned in 28 countries.  They are litigating over 400 free speech and human rights cases worldwide.  142 US hospitals now offer some version of bloodless surgery to all patients regardless of religious beliefs.  ibid.

The national public inquiry into child sexual abuse is considering whether to conduct a separate investigation into The Jehovah’s Witnesses UK after it received a large number of reports about the organisation.

 

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is currently looking at the extent to which institutions in England and Wales failed to protect children from sexual abuse.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses organization, also known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, has over 8.3 million members worldwide.  The Jehovah’s Witnesses began as a Bible study group in the 1870s in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Their name is intended to designate them as a group of Christians who proclaim the truth about God, whom they call Jehovah.  All doctrine and laws governing the Jehovah’s Witnesses are created and passed down by an entity known as the Governing Body.  Cults and Extreme Belief s1e7: Jehovah’s Witnesses, captions, A&E 2018

 

When any one of Jehovah’s Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate.  Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter.  ibid.  Jehovah’s Witnesses Child Abuse Policy

 

In 2014, a former Jehovah’s Witness filed a $10.5 million lawsuit against the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, alleging that they covered up her childhood sexual abuse.  ibid.  caption
