God is dead not because He doesn’t exist, but because we live, play, procreate, govern, and die as though He doesn’t. Chuck Colson, counsel to Richard Nixon
I handed them a script and they turned it down. It was too controversial. It talked about concepts like, ‘Who is God?’ The Enterprise meets God in space; God is a life form, and I wanted to suggest that there may have been, at one time in the human beginning, an alien entity that early man believed was God, and kept those legends. But I also wanted to suggest that it might have been as much the Devil as it was God. After all, what kind of God would throw humans out of Paradise for eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge? One of the Vulcans on board, in a very logical way, says, ‘If this is your God, he’s not very impressive. He’s got so many psychological problems; he’s so insecure. He demands worship every seven days. He goes out and creates faulty humans and then blames them for his own mistakes. He's a pretty poor excuse for a supreme being.’ Gene Roddenberry
We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God who creates faulty humans and then blames them for their own mistakes. Gene Roddenberry
As you know, God is usually on the side of the big squadrons against the small. Comte de Bussy-Rabutin
I don’t know what God is. But in my wildest dreams I would never conceive of God or a god as being like a modern human being in a materialistic society. Jane Goodall

I’ll tell you what happened – I just ran out of bullshit. Am I still on the air? I don’t know any other way to say it other than I just ran out of Bullshit. Bullshit is all the reasons we give for living. And if we can’t think of any reasons of our own we have the God bullshit. [inaudible] ... going through all this pointless pain and humiliation and decay, so they’d better be someone somewhere who does know – that’s the God bullshit. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing. C S Lewis
A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word darkness on the walls of his cell. C S Lewis
Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world. C S Lewis
Atheists express their rage against God although in their view He does not exist. C S Lewis
My argument against God was that the universe seemed so cruel and unjust. But how had I got this idea of just and unjust? A man does not call a line crooked unless he has some idea of a straight line. What was I comparing this universe with when I called it unjust? If the whole show was bad and senseless from A to Z, so to speak, why did I, who was supposed to be part of the show, find myself in such violent reaction against it? A man feels wet when he falls into water, because man is not a water animal: a fish would not feel wet. Of course, I could have given up my idea of justice by saying that it was nothing but a private idea of my own. But if I did that, then my argument against God collapsed too – for the argument depended on saying that the world was really unjust, not simply that it did not happen to please my private fancies. Thus in the very act of trying to prove that God did not exist – in other words, that the whole of reality was senseless – I found I was forced to assume that one part of reality – namely my idea of justice – was full of sense. Consequently, atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning. C S Lewis
I’m sick and tired of hearing about all of the radicals and the perverts and the liberals and the leftists and the communists coming out of the closet. It’s time for God’s people to come out of the closet, out of the churches and change America. James Robison, Christian televangelist, with Ronald Regan in attendance
