On September 9th 2008, Triplett was placed on trial for involuntary manslaughter. ibid. caption
Of the 12 jury members at Triplett’s trial, 11 were white. The prosecution told them that Triplett was the aggressor and that Michael Corrado died needlessly at his hands. ibid.
The judge handed down the maximum possible sentence of 18 years in prison. ibid.
Having assessed Triplett’s trial, the Court of Appeals overturned his conviction. The Appeal Court ruling meant that Triplett would be granted a new trial. ibid.

As they’re packing up the house, Ashley says Doug gets angry … He allegedly shoves a moving box into her side leaving her with a small scratch. Now she tries to leave but he won’t let her. So she tries to force him to leave the house, and he refuses. Doug then allgedly punches Ashley in the side of the head. She runs to a bedroom, grabs a pistol, and aims it at Doug when he follows her into the room. He makes like he’s going to hit her again. At which point Ashley fires four times. ibid.
