The well-loved story of Noah, derived from the Babylonian myth of Uta-Napisthim and known from the older mythologies of several cultures. The legend of the animals going into the ark two by two is charming, but the moral of the story of Noah is appalling. God took a dim view of humans, so he (with the exception of one family) drowned the lot of them including children and also, for good measure, the rest of the (presumably blameless) animals as well. Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion pp237-238

10,000 years ago it was a freshwater lake with thriving communities living on its shores. Today the Black Sea is salty and brackish, evidence that at some point in time a flood from the Mediterranean invaded its waters. Dating this flood could shed light on the Genesis story. ibid.
The shapes and shadows seen by Ark hunters have been forged by Ararat’s volcanic past. ibid.
It takes Damian ten hours to make and join just two small planks. For Noah and his family to cut and shape hundreds of trees would have been a monumental task. And to make planks watertight is almost impossible. ibid.
